4 Tips to Prevent Aggression in Your Cane Corso

4 Tips to Prevent Aggression in Your Cane Corso

Properly trained Cane Corsos can be great companions. They are great to have around strangers, both canine and human. However, one who has not received the correct training and socialization can be very territorial, distrustful, and even aggressive.

To prevent your Cane Corso from being aggressive, Sup’s Peace Makers offers the following suggestions.

  1. Start Early Obedience Training

As soon as you get your Cane Corso home, train them immediately. Do not wait until they are an adolescent and too strong to handle. It is better to teach young puppies the basics early. Get started right away!

  2. Provide Strong Leadership

A Cane Corso will watch your behavior and take their cues from you. Provide strong leadership to decrease your puppy’s chances of showing dominance aggression. You can provide leadership by making them wait at the door before you let them out, making them sit before being fed, or you can enroll them in obedience class.

  3. Teach Bite Inhibition

This is particularly important when dealing with such a large dog. There are various ways to do this. Some people give a high-pitched yelp or squeal to startle the puppy if they start mouthing. Others give their puppies a firm “no” then remove their hand and stop playing with them for at least five minutes.

  4. Stop Aggression As Soon As It Starts

If your Cane Corso shows any signs of aggression as they grow older, you need to immediately let them know that it is not okay. Mildly aggressive signs, such as growling, staring down visitors, or even barking, should be controlled using obedience commands.

The Takeaway

All Cane Corso puppies are adorable and sweet when you bring them home. However, please remember that this cute puppy will grow very quickly into a large dog – one that is protective and has a dominant nature. As the owner, it is your responsibility to train them properly.
